Giethoorn is situated in a wetland in the north of the Netherlands. Living with water has given the village unique characteristics, which have been preserved over the centuries: the farmhouses that are situated on little islands; characteristic boats that transport everything through small canals, the slow life, then and now. Cows were transported over water, so was milk, hay and even wedding parties used boats.
